East - West Shrine Football Game Results

The 2009 East-West Shrine football game was played today with the victory going to the East with a final score - East (13) and West (10).

The West took the lead with less than 7:00 minutes left to play (10-6), with what everyone thought was the game winning possession, but East responded with an 11 play - 55 yard drive that ended with an 8 yard TD pass from QB Mike Kafka (Northwestern) to TE Andrew Quarless (Penn State) with 6 seconds left to take their victory.

Even though this years East-West Shrine Game was the lowest scoring in almost 20 years, the critics argued that it was the most exciting finish in the 85 year history of the game.

The next East-West Shrine football game is scheduled for January 22, 2011, and will once again be held at the Florida Citrus Bowl in Orlando, FL. Please visit the official website of this wonderful event for next years ticket information and Television air dates.

Martain Luther King Jr. Day!

Did you know?

At the White House Rose Garden on November 2, 1983, President Ronald Reagan signed a bill creating a federal holiday to honor King. Observed for the first time on January 20, 1986, it is called Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.

This was followed by President George H. W. Bush's 1992 proclamation, that this holiday was to be observed on the third Monday of January each year, near the time of King's birthday.

On January 17, 2000, for the first time, Martin Luther King Jr. Day was officially observed in all fifty U.S. states.

85th East - West Shrine Football Game

The 85th East – West Shrine College Football game will be held in Orlando Florida at the Florida Citrus Bowl Stadium. The East-West Shrine game is the oldest All-Star game in the country and features college football’s finest athletes from the United States and Canada. This event draws representatives from all NFL teams (GM’s, Coaches, Scouts, etc.) during the week, providing these college players a wonderful opportunity to showcase their talents during what is always an exciting football game.

But what makes this event truly special is the financial support and national television exposure it provides to raise awareness about the expert orthopedic, burn, spinal cord injury rehabilitation, and cleft lip and palate care, available at no charge to patients and families, through the 22 Shriners Hospitals for Children.

For more information about this event, or for tickets, hotel, and travel please visit www.shrinegame.com or www.shrinershospitals.org.

Temple 6 Blood Drive

The need for blood donations to local hospitals is constant and never ending - in some cases the need is dire. This is why Temple 6 is coordinating a Blood Drive through United Blood Services (UBS) to be held at the Temple 6 Lodge Building on Saturday, March 6th, 2010 from 10:00 am - 3:00 pm.

As an additional effort to coordinate support and awareness for this event, Temple 6 will be inviting the Fraternity of Phi Gamma Delta, Alpha Nu Chapter of the University of New Mexico and its members to participate in our Blood Drive. With their support we hope to reach out to as many members of our local community and encourage them to participate in this important event as a donor.

There is absolutely no cost to an individual to give blood, and Temple 6 will be providing food and refreshments to those individuals who come into our Lodge and donate blood throughout the day.

Please contact our Blood Drive Coordinator - Brother Everett Goodman (505-235-5892) or visit our website for more information

2009 Candidate Report

Brethren,

We are pleased to inform you that 2009 was an exciting year for Temple 6 and Freemasonry in regards to the number of Brothers who have become new members in this wonderful Fraternity. In 2009, Temple 6 initiated, passed, and raised a staggering number of Brethren into the Fraternity. The list is as follows:

Entered Apprentice: 28 Initiated
Fellow Craft: 24 Passed
Master Mason: 25 Raised

On more than one occasion throughout the year, our Lodge initiated, passed, and raised 5 or more candidates at one time! All that can be said about this accomplishment is . . . WOW! This is a true testament to the dedication of our degree teams and our active membership. Without all their hard work, this accomplishment would not have been possible.

Special recognition has to be given to Brothers Matt Barstow (2009 Head Coach), Mike “Lucky” Draper (2009 Asst. Head Coach), Gary Willis, and the rest of the Temple 6 coaching staff. Without their tireless efforts to coach, mentor, and support the development of our new members, the entire candidate initiation process would not have been nearly as successful in 2009.

Thank you Brethren for all your hard work and we look forward to another exciting year of Freemasonry in 2010!

Celebrating the passing of one year and the beginning of the next can be a very exciting time for a number of reasons; it gives us an opportunity to reflect on our accomplishments, current affairs, and future goals. If you haven't already done so - you might want to take some personal time and think about making a New Year's resolution. Who knows, with some planning, focused effort and a little luck - 2010 may be your best year yet!
