Reminder - Temple Lodge 6 Camping Trip

A Message from Bro. Jonothan Andrews (Junior Deacon):

Greetings all,

This message is another reminder of the upcoming Temple Lodge 6 camping trip this weekend. The weather forecast looks great with temperatures in the 80's during the day and into the 50's as night for the entire weekend, making it great campfire weather in the evenings and beautiful outdoor weather during the day. I have heard from a few people who will be attending and a few who will not, but there are still many people on this list (and others you may be communicating with) who have not responded.

As the lodge is providing dinner on both evening, an accurate head count would be appreciated. Please email me and let me know for sure if you will or will not be attending and for how many evenings. As the spot is only about an hour from town, even if you are unable to stay for the evening, it is a very quick road trip to come up and visit for all or part of Saturday.

We are near the Cochiti Lake (Flyer), which offers boating and fishing opportunities, in addition to the cochiti golf course.

Hope to see you this weekend!

Walter Breuning Turns 114 Years Old!

Brethren,

In case you haven't heard the news - the worlds oldest man Walter Breuning turned 114 years old today! Who is Walter Breuning you ask? Well, we'll give you a hint (click here).

Born on September 21, 1896 in Melrose, Minnesota, Walter moved to Montana in 1918 where he resides today as part of the Rainbow Retirement Community in Great Falls, MT. During his life in Montana Walter worked as a clerk for fifty years with the Great Northern Railway (now known as the BNSF Railway).

Walter became the worlds oldest living man in July 2009 when Henry Allingham (UK) died at the age of 113.

During his life (living in three different centuries) Walter has lived through important parts of our countries history. The year Walter was born, Grover Cleveland was in office at the 22nd President of the United States. Other significant events during Walters life include: 7 U.S. Wars, the first air flight by the Wright Brothers, the Great Depression, Prohibition, the Manhattan Project, the U.S. Space Program, Neil Armstrong's first steps on the Moon, 22 U.S. Presidencies. The list goes on.

We would like to wish Walter a very Happy Birthday, and hope to see him this time next year to celebrate his 115 birthday!

Patriot Day!

Did you know?

By a joint resolution of the U.S. Congress on Dec. 18, 2001, September 11 was designated as Patriot Day. The resolution calls for the president of the United States to issue a yearly proclamation requesting that all U.S. flags be flown at half-staff.

Further, Americans are asked to honor the dead with a moment of silence beginning at 8:46 AM, Eastern Standard Time, the time that the first airplane struck the World Trade Center, and to respect the ceremonies of remembrance when they are conducted.

Prior to passage of the resolution, several other names had been proposed for the day, such as the National Day of Remembrance and the National Day of Prayer and Remembrance.

Crabs, Swords & Mark Oldknow

A Message From WB Adam Hathaway (Sandia Mountain Lodge 72):

Good Brethren,

If you have no other Masonic commitments tonight, you will want to come to Sandia Mountain Lodge #72 (Map).

First, tonight is the Annual Crab Feast. We will gorge on crab (for only $10) at 6 p.m.

Second, after dinner, the Wardens and I will provide a medieval fighting demonstration honoring our guest speaker and the theme of the evening. The three of us will open lodge in medieval armor.

Third, Brother Mark Oldknow, the Deputy Grand Commander of the Grand Commandery of Knights Templar of New Mexico will speak regarding the York Rite of New Mexico. Tonight's program includes a historical and current look at the Knights Templar.

This is one night that will prove to be something special. Be there and be square.
