Happy Halloween!

Did you know?

Halloween, celebrated each year on October 31, is a mix of ancient Celtic practices, Catholic and Roman religious rituals and European folk traditions that blended together over time to create the holiday we know today. Straddling the line between fall and winter, plenty and paucity and life and death, Halloween is a time of celebration and superstition. Halloween has long been thought of as a day when the dead can return to the earth, and ancient Celts would light bonfires and wear costumes to ward off these roaming ghosts. The Celtic holiday of Samhain, the Catholic Hallowmas period of All Saints' Day and All Souls' Day and the Roman festival of Feralia all influenced the modern holiday of Halloween.

In the 19th century, Halloween began to lose its religious connotation, becoming a more secular community-based children's holiday. Although the superstitions and beliefs surrounding Halloween may have evolved over the years, as the days grow shorter and the nights get colder, people can still look forward to parades, costumes and sweet treats to usher in the winter season.

Temple 6 Blood Drive Results!

Brethren,

We are pleased to announce that yesterdays Temple 6 Blood Drive was a success!

Out of 37 people who came to Temple 6 to give blood throughout the day, 26 sucessful donors were able to donate blood to United Blood Services - meeting our blood drive goal of 25 successful donations.

We would also like to report that the Ashlar 58 Soup & Salad Fundraiser held in conjunction with the Temple 6 Blood Drive yielded enough donations to meet their fundraiser goal. Congratulations Ashlar 58!

Thank you to all who gave blood yesterday! Your small donation will go a long way to help several people who are in need.

To those 11 potential donors who were unable to give blood - we would like to also thank each of you for taking the time out of your Saturday to come out to Temple 6 and support this important cause that saves lives.

Temple 6 would also like to thank the Brethren of Sandia Mountain 72 who came out to support us during the event.

And finally - a special thanks to Vic's Daily Cafe for allowing Temple 6 to put up a flyer at their place of business. Their support helped us to yield additional walk-ins throughout the day for our Blood Drive.

Temple 6 Blood Drive Today!

Brethren, this is it!

Today is our Blood Drive (10am - 3pm). If you haven't signed up to give blood then please come down to Lodge as a Walk In. Our Blood Drive goal is 25 successful donations and we are still sitting at 24 people signed up.

This Blood Drive is open to the public so everyone is invited to participate. This is one or the last community services we have scheduled for 2010, so lets end the year on a positive note by meeting and beating this goal!

We are also supporting our Masonic youth group - Ashlar Assembly 58, with their Soup & Salad fundraiser (donated by Chili's) from 11am - 2pm, and for every person who gives blood - Temple 6 will buy their soup and salad as a way of saying thank you.

Tell your friends, family, co-workers and all our Brethren to come out and support these two important events!

Temple 6 Blood Drive Tomorrow!

Brethren,

The Temple 6 Blood Drive / Ashlar 58 fundraiser is tomorrow at the Temple 6 Lodge building from 10am - 3pm. Our Blood Drive goal is 25 successful donations and we currently have 24 people signed up to give blood (thank you to those who have signed up!).

In order to safely meet that goal as promised to United Blood Services by our Lodge, we need to have 30 - 35 people volunteer to give blood tomorrow due to the normal disqualifiers from potential donors that could drop our numbers (blood pressure, medications, foreign travel, etc.).

We’re close - but not quite there!

Ashlar 58 is conducting their soup & salad fundraiser (provided by Chili’s) in conjunction with the Temple 6 Blood Drive, and our Lodge has agreed to buy the soup & salad for those individuals who successfully give blood as a way to say thank you and to show our support for Ashlar 58 during their fundraiser.

The Blood Drive / Soup & Salad fundraiser is open to the public, so please spread the word about tomorrow’s events and encourage those you know to sign up and give blood.
