Thanksgiving Day!

Did you know?

In 1621, the Plymouth colonists and Wampanoag Indians shared an autumn harvest feast that is acknowledged today as one of the first Thanksgiving celebrations in the colonies. For more than two centuries, days of thanksgiving were celebrated by individual colonies and states. It wasn't until 1863, in the midst of the Civil War, that President Abraham Lincoln proclaimed a national Thanksgiving Day to be held each November.

St. Jude's "Give Thanks" 5K Walk Update

Brethren,

Last Saturday morning, November 20th, brethren from Temple 6, family and friends participated in the Albuquerque St. Jude's "Give Thanks" 5K Walk at Cottonwood mall.

This 5K Walk was a charity event where participants formed walking teams to raise money and awareness for the St. Jude's Research Hospital and their efforts to find cures for childhood diseases.

Out of the 28 top fundraising walk teams - Temple 6 raised $423, beating our set goal to raise $400 - putting us as the 9th overall top fundraising walk team for this event. Way to Go!

In all - more than 533 people came together to support the 5K Walk - raising over $28,000!

Thanks to Bro. Dustin Boyd for his efforts in putting together the walk team for this event. We would also like to thank the Brethren, family and friends who participated in the walk as part of the Temple 6 Walk Team, and finally - a special thanks to all who "Sponsored a Participant" with donations for this worth while cause that is helping to find cures for childhood diseases.

St. Jude's 5K "Give Thanks" Walk

Brethren,

Tomorrow morning (Saturday, Nov. 20th) is the St. Jude’s “Give Thanks” 5K Walk at Cottonwood Mall - 10000 Coors Blvd NW, Albuquerque, NM 87114 (Map). As part of our charitable efforts for 2010 as a Masonic Lodge - Temple 6 will be participating as a walking team in this 5K.

This is a wonderful event for a very important cause - helping to raise money for the St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. This is also one of those events where we as Masons our families, friends and co-workers can join together and participate in a charitable cause that everyone would be willing to support.

For those who might be worried about the walking distance, the 5K Walk is at your own pace, so you can take as long as you like to complete the event - the important thing is participation! Plus when you’re done, you can spend some quality time with the family and do some shopping at the mall or surrounding retailers.

So please, if you are available tomorrow morning - go to the Temple 6 St. Jude’s Website today, join our walking team (with a small donation online - any amount), meet us at Cottonwood Mall tomorrow - with the family, and walk with your Brethren.

Meet Up location: Food Court parking area (north side of mall) - Map
Registration: 6:00 am
Walk Starts: 7:15 am

Hope to see you tomorrow morning!

Message from Sandia Mountain Lodge 72:

Good Brethren,

I apologise for the late notice on this. We moved the normal night of Brotherhood Night due to the upcoming Thanksgiving Holiday.

Tonight, Sandia Mountain Lodge #72 invites you to join us for Brotherhood Night and Fundraiser Day and a Trivia Challenge at TGI Fridays, Albuquerque, NM.

1. Brotherhood Night - at TGI Friday's 6 p.m. tonight. Bring this Benefit Flyer attachment with you and 20% of what you spend (not including alcohol, tip or tax) on Nov 17th gets donated to the Sandia Mountain Lodge for charitable purposes. It's a great way to enjoy each other's company and support the Lodge. Bring your family and please distribute this flyer to everyone you know so they can support the Lodge as well. Brotherhood Night begins at 6 p.m.

2. Fundraiser Day - The above fundraiser is in effect from 11 a.m. - 10 p.m. today so you could come by at any time to support the fundraiser at your convenience.

3. Challenge - Following dinner, we will adjourn to the bar area and compete in the televised trivia games. We have already challenged Temple Lodge #6 for bragging rights. Perhaps another Lodge will defeat us both? Last time SML 72 was victorious.

TGI Friday's is located at: 10001 Coors Blvd. NW (next to Cottonwood Mall)

So if you're free, come and hang out, enjoy fantastic fellowship and support the fundraising efforts of Sandia Mountain Lodge #72.

Veterans Day!

Did you know?

Veterans Day originated as "Armistice Day" on Nov. 11, 1919, the first anniversary of the end of World War I. Congress passed a resolution in 1926 for an annual observance, and Nov. 11 became a national holiday beginning in 1938. Veterans Day is not to be confused with Memorial Day - a common misunderstanding, according to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Memorial Day (the fourth Monday in May) honors American service members who died in service to their country or as a result of injuries incurred during battle, while Veterans Day pays tribute to all American veterans - living or dead - but especially gives thanks to living veterans who served their country honorably during war or peacetime.
