Martin Luther King Jr. Day!

This was followed by President George H. W. Bush's 1992 proclamation, that this holiday was to be observed on the third Monday of January each year, near the time of King's birthday.
On January 17, 2000, for the first time, Martin Luther King Jr. Day was officially observed in all fifty U.S. states.

Bro. Sims Funeral Today!
Brethren,
Today is the funeral service for our departed Brother Archie Sims. Bro. Sims laid down his working tools on Tuesday, January 4, 2011 at the age of 88, and is survived by his son and daughter, his three grand-children, and his great-grandson.
Visitation for Bro. Sims will be at the French University Chapel (1111 University Blvd NE, Albuquerque, NM 87102) – MAP, and will begin at 10:15 a.m. A graveside service will follow at 1:00 p.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery (501 North Guadalupe Street Santa Fe, NM 87501) - MAP.

Bro. Sims was elected to membership in Temple Lodge 6 in November of 1954, and was raised to the sublime degree of Master Mason in January 1955. Bro. Sims was also a 32° Scottish Rite Mason with the Orient of New Mexico and a Noble with the Ballut Abyad Shrine.

The early Roman calendar consisted of 10 months and 304 days, with each new year beginning at the vernal equinox; according to tradition, it was created by Romulus, the founder of Rome, in the eighth century B.C. A later king, Numa Pompilius, is credited with adding the months of Januarius and Februarius. Over the centuries, the calendar fell out of sync with the sun, and in 46 B.C. the emperor Julius Caesar decided to solve the problem by consulting with the most prominent astronomers and mathematicians of his time.
